Spotlight on Boats

One of my favorite settings in a D&D game is the ship. Working it in correctly can be a little tricky. It's not hard to shoe horn in a place where the party needs to sit on a boat and take care of a boss battle, but a boat provides an inescapable closed off arena which can be a good place for story based puzzles. I.E. Someone on the boat is the necromancer, find out who, or someone on the boat has the thing that you need to steal, or anything like that.

Long story short, boats in D&D are the shit and here are a couple of boat maps I collected.

D&D/Comic Pick-ups

Here are some things I bought recently (and also didn't buy.) I thought posting some cell phone pics might be a bit easier for me than making a video. Anyway, on with the pick ups!
Here we have The Essential Marcel Team-Up #2. This was 5 bucks which for any Marvel Essential is awesome! I have read the first few comics that are included. It seems like each one is its own independent filler story as opposed to a chained, multi-issue story arc. I think it should be noted that every team up in this issue features Spiderman accept one. The second issue in the book features The Human Torch and Daredevil which was an amazing comic!

Some Photos of Minis

I stumbled upon some photos of a couple minis that I bought years ago. I was collecting whatever I could to use as props on a battle map. These were a lower cost solution to buying the actual D&D mini's game.

Some Lonley D&D Manuals

Here are a few lonely 2nd edition manuals at the local used book store. This is one of those places that bases their prices off of what eBay is charging so I doubt these books are going anywhere anytime soon.

Magic: The Gathering

I played the shit out of Magic The Gathering with my older brother from about 1996 to 2001. We got into the game while fourth edition was the newest line of cards. During that time, Ice Age was still on the shelves, but it was soon to be out of print. It was weird because the only opponents we had at that time were each other. We weren't going to game meets or anything like that, we just sat down on the carpet in one of our bedrooms and started playing. It was a good time.

Since it was just the two of us, it created this race to see who could get the best cards (I.E. who spent the most money) which was really ironic since both of us were broke all the time. I think in the end just before I moved out my older brother had 6 binders full of cards and we both had 4 to 5 decks each at least. (Although my brother had the cards to support many many more.)

Welcome to "Rolling a 20"

I'm not sure how this idea evolved into a D&D related blog. I have been running a video game related blog and podcast for almost four years now and every once in a while I get the bug to talk about games like D&D. That is to say, tabletop games, collectible card games, (some comics?) and other traditional gaming subjects. In fact, back in january 2011, I ran a four part mini series of podcasts called "The Twelve Sided Podcast" (Which only ran two episodes.)

So as far as what this page will contain, I know I want to make this a fun project to update and work on, so rather than have pretensions of being a news media outlet, this will read much more like a personal blog. I love tabletop games, but sadly I don't get to play them much.

Anyway I know these "WELCUM 2 MUH PAGEE" type posts don't get read much and they are irritating at best, but this is the plunge yet again into something different. Hope something fun comes out of it.
